Wisconsin Walleye Limit Changes

fishing games pc free

The Wisconsin walleye limit does not follow the same rules as other states. Five fish are allowed daily in Wisconsin, up from five in 2008. The bag limit in the state's waters has also increased to ten. New legislation made it easier to anglers to catch more walleyes daily than ever before. The current walleye size limits were lowered from 20 inches to 24 inches.

New regulations will limit walleye size and bag limitations to five years. The five-year limit for size will increase to 18 inches, while fish between 22 and 28 inches may be kept. The bag limit would drop to one per day. Gregg Walker (executive director of the Minocqua chapter Walleyes for Tomorrow) spoke in support during Monday's public hearing.

All Wisconsin lakes will be subject to the DNR’s new regulations. Eighteen inches is the minimum size that a walleye can reach. Maximum size for a walleye is 28 inches. However, if the fish is over 20 inches, the fish cannot be kept. If this change is implemented, anglers will be allowed to keep only one fish a day. This will help the population rebound and allow anglers to keep a limit of walleye for recreational purposes.

In response to rapid population declines, the DNR placed a five year ban on walleye harvest. DNR carried out surveys this spring to determine that the population had attained its goal of two fish an acre. This was not enough to maintain the goal level. They found that the fish were not breeding as fast as they should and there was too many females in their pool. The DNR is currently considering the new regulations. However, the sentiment is mixed.

Like the fish of the old, the Wisconsin Walleye Limit for Saugers and Other Fish has been altered. A new regulation, effective in fall, will increase the size limit to saugers up to 27inches. But, the minimum size for saugers has not changed. In fact, the DNR has several alternatives for high-density and slow-growth lakes. Some lakes will have no minimum size, while others will allow only one fish larger than 14 inches.

The new Wisconsin walleye limit takes effect on Wednesday for the 2020-21 license year. This is one of the most significant changes in fishing regulations in a single season in decades. The new regulation allows anglers the legal right to pursue bass all year round, even after regular harvest seasons have ended. The change is expected to increase the number of tournaments and club outings for bass in the state. It offers more opportunities for fishermen to apply their skills.
